Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) is a web service that provides secure, scalable compute capacity in the Amazon Web Services cloud. Launched in 2006, EC2 has become the backbone of modern cloud computing infrastructure and serves millions of customers worldwide.

AWS's global infrastructure consists of 108 Availability Zones spread across 34 regions with a 400 GbE fiber backbone network that provides low latency and high network quality. Each Availability Zone has independent power, cooling and physical security and is connected via an ultra-low-latency redundant network for maximum fault tolerance.
